About the exhibition
10 September - 1 October, 2009
Honouring those that have gone before us to seek new lands and experience the exotic, The Chronicles of Jacques Dubois encapsulates the desire to explore the unknown and subject oneself to the elements of nature all in the name of adventure and prestige. Presented as a museum collection, these new paintings by Jamie Boys portray the life of esteemed explorer Jacques Dubois. Depicting Dubois in landscapes that operate on a grandiose operatic scale, this show is a response to Alain De Botton’s book, The Art of Travel and the concept of the sublime in relation to nature; the idiosyncratic tales by Wes Anderson in his films, The Royal Tenenbaums and The Life Aquatic and the lyrics of C.W. Stoneking’s cd Jungle Lullaby.
