Ray Arnold Biography


Born in Melbourne in 1950, Ray Arnold gained a diploma Teaching (Art-Craft) at Melbourne State College in 1972, and another in Art and Design at Chisholm Institute in 1978. In 1981 he went on to recieve a Graduate Diploma in Printmaking from Chisholm Institute.

Up until this time, Arnold had exhibited in numerous group exhibitions throughout Victoria, as well as in a touring show throughout the United States of America and the United Kingdom titled "Contemporary Australian Printmakers" in 1980. In 1981, Arnold held his first individual exhibition which would continue annualy until 1985 in both Melbourne and Sydney.

With much experience after having taught as a secondary teacher in Victoria for seven years, in 1981 Arnold began tutoring in Printmaking at various Melbourne colleges before moving to Tasmania in 1983, where he continued to tutor at the University of Tasmania's School of Art. He remained at the School of Art for three years. His arrival in Tasmania began his eight year studio membership at the Chameleon Artists Co-operative.
